Cedar Domo with LED

I stole the idea from this guy’s tutorial but wanted to use something other than cardboard so the baby could play with it and not slobber it to destruction. I took some pictures of the process, but they were mostly of the electric stuff and the final bits. If you have any questions about the actual wood carving part feel free to ask.

All the wood carved and pieces glued for the insides. His mouth is a piece of Plexiglas with some cardstock teeth and red painted paper behind it. The little strips of lighter wood are from Popsicle sticks and the one across the middle is drilled out to hold the LED in place.

I didn’t have anything to hold the 3V battery, so I cut some bamboo, bent a piece of spring for a clip to hold the top of it, and bent a little piece of brass for the neutral/ground bottom.

(Closeup of the bamboo battery holder.)

Soldered a piece of wire to the brass for the bottom.

Everything soldered and ready. Sanded the LED to diffuse the light and give it a softer glow.

The back cover is a piece of black plastic from a dvd case cut to shape. The switch for the light is epoxied to the plastic.

Thend.
